4. Classroom/Rehearsal Procedures for Band
To develop a high standard of musical proficiency and an attitude which reflects respect upon you and your performing ensemble, as well as Bonnie Branch Middle School, the following principles are to be established to maintain discipline, pride, and cooperation from all members.
Arrive to class and rehearsals on time with everything you need and your instrument in top performance condition. This includes oiled valves, corks with grease, etc. All instrument cleaning and preparation should be done at home.
Be seated with your instrument, music, and pencil in an orderly fashion.
Always sit with proper posture. Sit up straight, on the front edge of your chair, with both feet flat on the floor. Your music stand should be at the appropriate height so that you can see your music and the conductor.
Never bring any food, drink, candy, gum, or other edible, chewable, drinkable item into the classroom. Violations will result in automatic detention.
Warm up quietly by sustaining soft long tones in the middle register. Talking should be minimal.
When the conductor comes to the podium, stop all noises and give the conductor your eye contact and full attention.
Once rehearsal begins, never play your instrument when the conductor is not conducting, unless specifically directed to do so by the conductor.
Never touch any instrument other than your own.
Your instrument case should be labeled with your name at all times.
Pack up only at the direction of the conductor. Always make sure to straighten you chair, put your stand back, pick up any trash around your area, and leave the room in an orderly manner.
Arrive to your next class on time.
Take your instrument and music home every day. No instruments should ever be left in the band room overnight. You are expected to be practicing at home on a regular basis.
